about
I wrote this track because I feel these frustrations about the school system. I'm 14yrs old. Dyslexic. My strengths are in the creative subjects but as the system stands I feel these are not really celebrated. I can't do all the subjects I want because I HAVE to cover the governments agenda of learning. Teach to the Test is what it all feels like. These are my opinions and based on some of my own experiences so far.
I timed the release of this song to clash with the biggest Exam to be taken on this day, GCSE Maths in the UK. 1000's and 1000's of people sitting it right now...just to get onto the ladder!
lyrics
We didn't learn this,
But you put it on the test,
English is hard enough,
Why you adding French?,
I don't understand maths,
Why are x and y here,
Did they run away from the alphabet,
I don't get geography,
Learning about rocks and glaciers,
And places I'll never be, never see,
What's the point of art and creativity,
If art's draw this,
Do it exactly,
Don't mess up,
And don't make it up,
You'll never be good at this,
Teach to the test,
Life's not a test,
Not a test,
Teach to the test,
For the masses,
Teach to the test,
Not a test,
Not a test,
Teach to the test,
For the masses,
For the masses,
Teach to the test
,
I'm ok at English,
Just can't spell words 'write',
Struggle with my left and rights,
I was told in a poem you can't rhyme,
Cause its childish,
Why's it childish,
Why is making it flow,
Making it grow,
Childish,
Why all these rules for nothing,
Science means nothing to me,
Can't pronounce half the words,
Don't understand most of it,
Don't no why it is what it is,
You say don't matter,
as long as I can do it,
But why am I doing it,
You say I need to know it,
But as soon as the test over,
Don't matter if I do or don't,
Learning all these formulas,
What's the point of it,
Don't even know,
My own phone Number,
What's the point,
when I can just google it, and,
Sitting these exams one after the other,
Just to get on to the ladder,
With a system that don't care,
Care about me,
They just want me to be a cog in a wheel,
Killing my creativity,
The lowest rung of society,
I don't understand,
I don't understand,
I don't blame the teachers,
Just the ones who made the systems,
I don't blame the teachers,
Just the ones who made the system,
The system that holds you back,
Says You Can't do that,
I'm like i can,
They reply that next terms class,
The systems broken,
It needs changing,
Needs replacing,
Letters mix up in my head,
I write good songs, good stories,
But that doesn't matter,
Doesn't matter,
You don't matter,
Don't matter,
Don't matter,
Cog in a wheel,
Colour draining out of me,
Cog in a wheel,
Killing the creativity,
Cog in a wheel,
Killing me,
Drowning me,
I can't breathe,
It's Draining me,
Hi, I'm Romy,
I'm 15, singer songwriter. I like to tell a story. Words for my songs pop into my
head
quickly and at any time, they are on my mind until I can write them down! Sometimes I just play a bunch of chords that I like and
come up with a few catchy lines and then build my songs around them. My best
songs happen quickly! Check out my socials linktr.ee/romyrosongmusic
